JOINT REPLACEMENT SURGERY
Joint replacement surgery is the excision and replacement of parts of an arthritic joint with plastic, metal or ceramic components, also known as a prosthetic joint. A prosthetic joint takes over and mimics the movement of a functional, healthy joint. This is the gold standard approach to treating severe hip and knee arthritis and is deemed a treatment option when conservative pain management is no longer effective.

PROSTHETIC JOINT INFECTIONS
A prosthetic joint infection is an adverse effect of a primary joint arthroplasty that requires surgery and systemic antibiotics to treat the infection. Once the infection has been eradicated from the joint and implants, revision surgery is necessary in order to alleviate pain and restore the joint’s natural pre-infection function.
